All that razzmatazz about flat screen displays seems to be increasingly challenged by the curved display all over again and the day of the curved display seems to be dawning all over again. And leading the pack is AU Optronics (AUO) who have taken the wraps off of what is being called the world’s first convex curved display having already presented the concave curved display at SID 2008 back in May. The display incorporates a TFT-LCD glass substrate with a curve radius of 100mm, AUO detail and a specially designed curved backlight unit to give off uniform brightness and contrast across the convex surface. Though the main app of the display remains bit of a novelty, the curved display may be used in LCD watches and dashboards in the near future. Look out for the convex and the concave displays set to be showcased by AUO at Display Taiwan 2008 to be held in Taipei next week.
