Eco entertainment: Sharp launches solar-powered LCD TV
Asmita | Oct 7 2008

Well, what can I say except that we have been waiting for something like this a long, long time and we’re glad that we finally have a realistic chance of bringing one home. Sharp, one of the world’s leading electronics makers, have now launched a new 52″ LCD TV that runs off solar power and help users to cut down on electricity bills and global warming!

What’s different? Of course, no one actually thinks that an LCD TV could be powered entirely by solar energy, not yet at least. But we totally dig the inclusion of a solar panel at the base of the TV set which allows it to absorb the sun’s rays and convert it into usable electricity that can power the set along with regular electrical power.

Price and Availability The 52″ Sharp beauty was unveiled at the recently concluded CEATEC 2008, so we expect the technology to hit retail within the next 12 months.

Better options Grundig eco-friendly LCD TV range Since solar powered TVs are not everyone’s cup of tea, we highly recommend the Grundig LCD TVs. the eco-friendly company creates idiot boxes in conjunction with the Carbon Neutral program and for every 1 kg of global warming gas emitted, pays for 1 kg to be saved through climate friendly projects.

Philips’ Eco TV The RoHS compliant TV set is not only feature packed, it is also virtually free of the six major toxic metals including lead, mercury and cadmium. Other power saving features of the set include auto dimming in response to ambient light, using a mere 0.15W on standby and packaging and manuals crafted out of recycled materials! Image
